Another attempt at boredom induced ranting.
So a while back, whilst smoking with my friends and watching the clear sky for shooting stars we began talking, as being alone with people in the middle of nowhere usually leads to. Talking about all sorts of weird and other… less weird stuff.
But first let me just explain the reason behind this “star-gazing”. It was due to the fact that a friend of mine mentioned he had never seen a shooting star before. (the act of a meteor entering and burning in the atmosphere) So we simply had to go somewhere where he could experience this. Mostly due to the fact that all of us felt it was somehow important for every human being to see this event at least once in their life (he’s 21 btw). And since sooner is better than later, (by most standards anyway) we decided we simply cannot leave until this poor jackass sees one, no matter how long it takes.
Witch of course ended up taking a good four hours, because well, my friend is easily distracted and simply missed a lot of them, or argued he didn’t see it directly but only at an angle, therefore it didn’t “count”. I digress from my point but needles to say we finally all saw “the big one” that stretched through half of the skyline.
So in these hours, while waiting and discussing, we came to a conclusion that the perfect word ever conceived is not even in the English dictionary…! This may not be a some great cosmic truth but I still feel it is somewhat funny.
What I’m talking about of course is the word “meh”.
What is it about this word exactly that makes it so god damn versatile we wondered. Basically you can use it in any situation or as a response to any question. That of course doesn’t mean it’s always the best word or answer to use but unlike most words…its at least mildly fits anywhere.
Basically only then did we realize that the reason why its so versatile, is because it has no attached meaning. Witch is partially why, for me at least it’s so fascinating. Evidently words that have no apparent meaning, can mean more than any written word can. This I still find kinda funny, but since “meh” could very well be called a derivative of “eh” why do I find “meh” to be so much more expressive?? Just because of a simple addition of an extra letter? Or doest it have something to do with the fact than when saying “meh” to someone, you have a bit more time to express your feelings about the matter, subject, whatever, than you would by the means of facial gestures while using the shorter “eh” ?
Anyway…how do I feel about the current situation concerning Earthrise? Meh….
…. see, it kind of explains it all doesn’t it?
